“The Alliance Scholarship Program helped me by alleviating the many stresses of financing my education. It allowed me to work less hours per week while at school and thus devote more time to academics and school involvement.”

Legislative Dignitaries Recognize Alliance Scholars
Each year, the Alliance publicizes scholarship recipients by sending press releases to their local newspapers and announcements to their local, state, and federal legislators.
In response, an impressive total of 42 U.S. Senators, 20 U.S. Representatives, and 7 Governors sent 179 congratulatory letters and/or awards. The students also were honored by our commander-in-chief, President George W. Bush, who sent a congratulatory letter and a picture to each student.
The Future of Alliance Scholarship Recipients
What happens to Alliance Scholarship recipients after they receive a scholarship? In 2007, the Alliance began a program that tracks the ongoing success and academic careers of scholarship recipients. An email invitation for an online survey was sent to all the recipients of a 2006 scholarship to get feedback on their plans for their education and their overall experience with the scholarship, from filling out the application to receiving their scholarship.
Some interesting trends revealed by the survey include:
- Pre-med and education were the most sought-after majors
- Over 70% of the students are planning to attend graduate school
- 94% plan to renew their scholarship in 2007, if eligible
“It has helped me attend an excellent school that I would not have been able to attend had it not been for scholarships.”

U. S. Senator Chambliss Congratulates Alliance Scholarship Award Winner
U. S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) wanted to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of Georgia residents. On Friday, August 10, 2007 Senator Chambliss met with 2007 Alliance Scholarship Award winner Lauren Sullivan and her mother, Janice Sullivan, an Alliance Member since 2001. “It was a privilege to congratulate Lauren on her achievement and wish her much success at Furman University,” said Senator Chambliss.
“Our young people are our greatest natural resource, and I applaud the Alliance for Affordable Services for making this scholarship available to ensure opportunity and access to a first-class education.” Lauren is a 2006 graduate of Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, GA and will be attending Furman University in South Carolina next year. The Alliance for Affordable Services has awarded over $800,000 to deserving students since the programs inception in 1996.
The Alliance enjoys recognizing these outstanding students who demonstrate a true passion for learning and an impetus to succeed.
“By helping to fund my college education, the Alliance Scholarship Program has let me concentrate less on how to pay for my education, and more on actually being educated.”
