Part of the Alliance’s commitment to members includes giving them opportunities to voice their opinions and ideas to elected officials who serve in Washington, D.C.
In 2008, the Alliance pursued that commitment by hosting two legislative events. The events allowed members to meet one-on-one with their elected representatives and discuss the issues important to their businesses.
At a reception in Irving, Texas, Alliance Members met Rep. Pete Sessions, a Republican who serves the 32nd Congressional District. Alliance Member Lori Bach attended the reception and said, “I was happy to have the opportunity to meet my representative and hear his perspective.”
The Alliance also hosted a small-business symposium in Dania, Florida. Rep. Ron Klein, a Democrat who serves Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Democrat who serves Florida’s 20th Congressional District, met with Alliance Members at the symposium.
“I was very pleased to meet with so many members of the Alliance for Affordable Services to discuss the important issues that affect small-business owners,” said Wasserman Schultz.
It’s not oft en that individuals have direct communication with their legislators. But through the Alliance, members can present their ideas and perspectives face-to-face with their elected representatives.
