Alliance for Affordable Services Applauds President’s Push for Healthcare Reform, Calls Insurance Sales Across State Lines “Step Toward Affordability, Accessibility”
DALLAS, TX (January 27, 2005) – The Alliance for Affordable Services today applauded the President’s call for passage of legislation that would allow health insurance carriers to market insurance plans across state lines. Responding to remarks delivered yesterday by President Bush, Alliance president William Callaghan said, “This is a reasonable step that will protect the health of Americans by making it possible for more people to afford health insurance.”
“The Alliance is 150,000 members – the majority are independent business owners who have one or two people working for them. They live, day in and day out, with the struggle of providing health insurance for themselves and their employees. Allowing health insurance carriers to market across all state lines, while ensuring coverage meets certain federal requirements, will provide small businesses with more options at varying price points. This will be an important step toward affordability and accessibility.”
Noting that the premiums for comparable coverage can vary dramatically between states – primarily because the number of mandated benefits can vary dramatically – Callaghan observed that the change advocated by the President will give consumers the ability to purchase health insurance that meets their individual and family needs.
The Alliance for Affordable Services is a not-for-profit association dedicated to helping its members live better and save more. The Alliance uses the power of the group to negotiate significant savings for its members on a variety of benefits. Through its various educational and training tools, the Alliance promotes wellness and wise medical practices to both improve the health of its members and lower healthcare costs.
