ALLIANCE TO HOLD ANNUAL MEETING ON OCT. 21
Association Will Honor First Annual Outstanding Scholar
The Alliance for Affordable Services will hold its Annual Meeting of Members on Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas—Irving, Texas.
The highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of the inaugural Outstanding Scholar Award, an annual recognition of the academic successes of past Alliance Scholarship recipients. This year, four-time Alliance Scholarship recipient Bryan Woolstenhulme will be honored. Woolstenhulme, a resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Idaho with a degree in Computer Engineering. He is currently employed as a Product Engineer for Micron Technology, Inc. in Boise, Idaho. Woolstenhulme’s parents have been Alliance Members since 1999.
“I’m grateful that the Alliance chose to recognize me. I’m sure there were a lot of applicants for this award and they picked me out of all of them. It’s really amazing,” Woolstenhulme said.
In addition to the presentation of the Outstanding Scholar Award, the Alliance Board of Directors will review the association’s progress in legislative efforts. The Alliance is committed to helping hardworking, independent Americans thrive economically, physically, and emotionally. To that end, the Alliance’s Washington, D.C., office advocates for legislation that will help to control, and eventually lower, the cost of healthcare and monitors how the IRS and tax laws treat independent business owners.
A top advocacy initiative this year was support of the Health Care Choice Act. This legislation encourages lower health insurance costs by allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines while maintaining important consumer protections.
“Allowing health insurance carriers to market across all state lines, while ensuring coverage meets certain federal requirements, will provide small businesses with more options at varying price points,” Alliance president William Callaghan said. “This will be an important step toward affordability and accessibility.”
A reception in the Las Colinas East room will immediately follow the meeting.
