Alliance for Affordable Services Ramps Up Advocacy Efforts
Alliance for Affordable Services wasted no time shoring up support for new small-business initiatives recently outlined by Congress and the Obama administration.
In March, Alliance President Dr. Paul Pevsner traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with two congressional members. He thanked them for their support of small businesses and for their work with Alliance. The association also ran display advertisements in major newspapers across the country.
Both efforts showed Alliance Members, small-business owners and congressional representatives that the association understands the importance of small-business contributions to the economic recovery.
“The ads helped us show that the Alliance is paying attention to the issues that are critical to small-business owners in this economic environment,” says Dr. Pevsner. “We know that small business is the backbone of the American economy. And the ads helped us promote that message to a nationwide readership.”
The newspaper ads ran in:
- The Miami Herald
- The Boston Globe
- The Tampa Tribune
- The Charlotte Observer
- Chicago Tribune
- San Francisco Chronicle
- The Dallas Morning News
The ads were coupled with Dr. Pevsner’s special trip to Capitol Hill to meet with Reps. Ron Klein, D-Fla., and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla. Both are strong supporters of the small business community as well as the Alliance.
When meeting with Reps. Wasserman Schultz and Klein, Dr. Pevsner discussed current innovations in health reform; science and technology funding increases from the stimulus package; and the importance of tax reform for small businesses.
“It was great to meet with Dr. Pevsner during his visit to Capitol Hill,” says Rep. Wasserman Schultz. “The Alliance for Affordable Services is an incredible advocate on issues of importance to small-business owners throughout the country, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them.”
A solid working relationship with elected representatives is the foundation of the Alliance advocacy program. Both Rep. Wasserman Schultz and Rep. Klein have hosted town hall meetings with the Alliance and have talked with individual Alliance Members. They’ve also met and participated in photo opportunities with several of the Alliance scholarship recipients.
The success of the Alliance’s advocacy efforts is made possible not only by the strong working relationships developed with congressional representatives, but also by the ongoing involvement of the association’s members, says Dr. Pevsner.
“Alliance Members are a big part of our advocacy program,” Dr. Pevsner says. “They come to town hall events. They participate in surveys. They give us feedback on business and legislative issues. All of those activities are crucial to our success.”
The Alliance for Affordable Services is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping members live better and save more. The Alliance uses the power of the group to negotiate significant savings on a variety of business, lifestyle and healthcare benefits for its members.
